Malta GC
The award of the George Cross to the Island of Malta and it's people.
On 15th April 1942, King George VI awarded the George Cross to the then Governor, Sir William Dobie, on behalf of the people of Malta with the following words: "To honour her brave people, I award the George Cross to the Island Fortress of Malta, to bear witness to a heroism and devotion that will long be famous in history" On 13th September 1942, a special ceremony was held when the new Governor of Malta, Lord (Tiger) Gort handed the George Cross to the Chief Justice of Malta, Sir George Borg.
